Paris 2nd Arr.- Montorgueil - 15 min. walk to Seine & Marais district- near Blvd. de Sebastopol Metro Reaumur-Sebastopol. Please note:
If you do not leave the 50€ cash for cleaning, it will be charged to your credit card. Booked till Dec. 1, then Dec. 27-Jan 23, then Feb 17- March 17. Avail. Dec. 2-26th, and Jan. 24 to Feb. 16.
This is an EXTREMELY SAFE area-- perfect for either singles or couples.
You have to practically go out of your way to find any trouble. Paris is NOT a violent place like the United States. This is a TRENDY area, right next to the charming shopping street- rue Montorgueil and adjacent to the popular and hopping Marais district. Available Dec. 1, '08.
(Booked for all of October & November 2008.)
The two best things about this apartment are 1) location, location, location-- and 2) the price. Walk to the Seine & Marais. The third thing is that it's among the coolest of all Parisian neighborhoods. Our guests just love it.
They have usually already stayed in the Marais, and now prefer our area.
Available August, then December, 2008. Booked till then.
Contact us for availability --just e-mail us. We cannot make appointments to see the place first. Sorry.
We're happy to talk to you :-))

But, please: NO CHRONIC COMPLAINERS!!! If you're looking for a deluxe place, this is NOT it. You need to spend about 1500 to 3000 Euros a month (or more in our neighborhood) for a spacious, nicely appointed place in Paris. Please DON'T rent our modest little piece of paradise :-) (The size of the entire apartment is 325 square feet. It's a one bedroom, full bath with tub.)
We just don't have the stamina to deal with high maintenance people or prima donnas on a budget. We rent places in Nice, Santa Fe and New Orleans. We've been landlords for 30 years. It's only Paris that seems to draw the "problems" you'll find in the "Quiz" at the end. Believe me, it's worth reading for a good laugh :-)
We prefer to rent to, happy, well-adjusted, joyous people, who enjoy getting a bargain :-)--- "low impact" people-- not people who live "larger than life" and require every amenity known to man.

Please take the 20 question "TEST QUIZ" below at the end.

iMac desk top and printer available for your Internet use.
Color flat screen TV with cable channels, and free phone calls to Europe and North America (7pm-till 8am M-F, + all day Sat., Sundays & Holidays, otherwise full price).
Note: City of Paris Bike Rentals right outside your door!
Super location! :-) Quiet, pedestrian street so you can sleep at night-- but 1 block to Monoprix supermarket & Metro, 3 short blocks to incredible shopping on rue Montorgueil, rue Tiquetonne-- tons of great restaurants, etc.
Walk to Seine, Notre Dame, Beaubourg, Marais. Fantastique! :-))
Please see our web site with photos and floor plan:
http://ladauphine.com/apt-et-photos.html
(May I please ask you to look at the photos, so you know what you're getting. Also, you will be able TO SEE THE LOCATION ON A MAP OF PARIS if you click on "The Neighborhood" tab.)

Wonderful location on very quiet, pedestrian rue Greneta. Furnished 1 bedroom, 2nd floor. Steps from Metro Reaumur-Sebastopol (lines 3 & 4), Monoprix super market. 3 short pedestrian blocks to Montorgueil boutique shopping and cafes. 12 minute walk to Seine. Separate kitchen, full bath with full tub/shower, parquet floors. Three French windows overlooking courtyard. Digicode; reinforced metal door. Prefer longer stays (1-4 months). Non-smoking. We will not rent to 3 persons (please do not ask). See updated photos at website featuring New Orleans/Paris/Nice and Santa Fe, New Mexico: http://www.ladauphine.com Credit card required (which acts as your deposit also). Cable TV, mobile phone, plus land line with free calls to U.S., Canada and Europe, sheets, towels, iron, CD/radio player, coffee maker, pop-up toaster, pots, pans, dishes, etc.
There is a wonderful, clean laundromat on rue Etienne Marcel, and a nearer one on rue Marie Stuart via the little mall, Grand Passage de Cerf, off rue St. Denis.
Includes utilities. Prefer at least a 3 week minimum. No further discounts available than monthly rate.
The apartment is a 10 minute walk from the Pompidou Centre and in a lovely pedestrian area which is full of bakeries & cafes. Just across the way is the Marias, the Jewish/Gay Quarter, filled with boutiques, galleries and more bars and restaurants. Nearest Metro is Reaumur-Sebastopol which is four stops from the Gare du Nord where the Eurostar arrives.
Laundromat is 4 blocks away; 24-hr internet a few blocks away; Lift not needed- 2nd floor; CD & DVD players. Need credit card to book. (Absolutely cannot be booked without a credit card.) See new listing for Nice, Cote d'Azur apartment also-

Here's what two recent guests wrote us:
"Hello Ray. I arrived safely and without problem. The apartment is wonderful and you are commended for foreseeing all a guest could want. I am really excited about my two-month stay here."
Don from Iowa-USA (a Classics Scholar doing research)
and
"Hey guys,
Glad you received our card even though we must apologise as it was very late. We had a fabulous holiday in Paris, thanks to you.
Yes, we loved our time, we loved your apartment and we loved the area. We would love to visit Paris again soon and maybe we can wander down to Nice for a while, and hopefully stay at your other accommodation down there..???
We'll be in contact soon.
BIG smiles,
Tamara & David" (Melbourne, Australia)

First order of business- please read:
If you are "easy to do business with", then great!
We are too!!! :-) Hooray. Contact us to book :-)
Actually, we'd LOVE to hear from you.
Remember that it's a two way street: We are just as interested in renting to good, nice people, as you are in renting from good, nice people. We're honest to a fault, and the apartment is homey, cozy, very comfortable, and virtually everyone enjoys it. It's a good deal. A bargain.

Your ability to be happy in this apartment is limited only by yourself. If you choose to make yourself happy here, you will be. It has everything you need to do so. Just being in Paris makes a lot of people happy :-)

No smoking. There is no oven (just 4-burner electric stove), no microwave (you buy things fresh in Paris and cook or heat it on the stove and eat it), no washer/dryer (laundromat is nearby), no lift (elevator); apartment is on the (French) 2nd floor. There's an apartment-sized fridge with a small freezer compartment, which makes those cute, tiny little French ice cubes :-)
Also included: an extra set of sheets.
Incidentally, we don't have a microwave and toaster oven because there is no room for them, and we are not sure the electrical circuit breakers could handle them in addition to the computer, peripherals, TV, etc. Otherwise, we would gladly spend the money for them :-) (Please don't spend your time figuring out how we could make space for them-- we really don't need or want them there. They're unnecessary.)

The kitchen is "postage stamp" size-- tiny and for one person only at a time-- normal for Paris. There is no salad spinner, and please don't buy one-- there's no room for it.
It's really not set up for extensive cooking. There are no pets allowed.

S.V. P.- 2 persons max.--one double bed in bedroom; credit card required to book; NO DISCOUNT for 1 person (sorry); 2nd floor- no lift. Please, please please-- do NOT ask for a further discount. It's not available.
The apartment will only be rented to one party for one visit. It cannot be rented to 2 or 3 different parties with different arrival dates all in one month.

I am sorry, but we have no staff available to show the apartment in advance to a variety of people-- especially for such short rental periods. You will have to book it from the photos and information here on the Internet. Thanks for your understanding.

We prefer self-sufficient guests to very needy, difficult ones. Just enjoy the experience. It's called "life in Paris", and it's different from "home" :-)

Note: Please leave 50€ in cash for the cleaning lady, Tina. So, for one week: 500€ to me and 50€ to , or 1000€ /month to me and 50€ in cash to Tina.

Test for prospective renters: (answer yes or no)
1- A) I don't think I could exist without a proper butter dish. I cannot simply buy butter in a tub, or make use of a small saucer in the apartment.
B) I am not sure if I could do without a microwave oven, or a toaster oven.
2- I'm an assertive person and I like to rent from easy-going people because I can really push them around and get what I want out of them. I enjoy driving them to their limits to fulfill my needs.
3- I really worry about lettuce leaves touching the sink, even though I just cleaned the sink thoroughly. Therefore, I must have a proper salad spinner to wash lettuce. It would not occur to me to use a colander which is there for this purpose.
4- I stay up at night worrying about the quality of tap water, even though I have been told the Paris water is rich with health-giving minerals and is better than most bottled waters.
Sometimes, when I can't sleep, I get up at 3 a.m. and vacuum.
5- The sight of calcium spots on glassware in the apartment from air drying the dishes is something that I can't abide. I have to wash them over and over. I think the landlord should buy a faucet filter to get rid of these minerals. Towel drying the glasses immediately so they don't collect water spots would not be a workable solution for me. I prefer to complain to the landlord about it.
6- Before I arrive at the apartment, I would like the current vacationer there to make a complete list of the Parisian guide books already there and e-mail them to me so I won't bring any duplicate guide books and can save on my luggage space. (Wouldn't hurt for them to make a complete list of dishes and kitchen tools while they're at it.)
Additionally, I LOVE to get the owner all involved in my travel plans-- car rentals- extra nights at hotels, or whatever-- I really feel I have scored "bonus points" when I get him to play concierge for me :-) Tee hee. Love those "free" extra services I can wrangle out of them.
7- I love snooping around under kitchen sinks to see if I can find any dirt or old cleaning rags and cleaners-- and then complain about it :-).
8- I love to stay home and clean minute, obscure areas with a toothbrush and cleanser when I am in Paris. It makes me feel super clean and content. I am always on the look out for germs and dirt-- even when they don't exist.
When I am in restaurants, I like to entertain myself by picking non-existent little pieces of lint from the tablecloth and "flicking" them away :-)
9- I love to reorganize drawers in an apartment and put things in "more logical" places. I simply cannot abide how others store things when they don't fit my sense of logic.
10- I cannot abide the pre-filled, disposable salt and pepper shakers you buy at the super market. I MUST have proper salt and pepper shakers that you fill up from time to time.
11- I love talking about the selection of pots and pans available, and all the things that are lacking to make this the "perfect" home for me on vacation. I want the owner to furnish it EXACTLY like I want it-- not for the convenience of most guests-- but specifically tailored to my personal needs. Some people would call me a manipulator--Ha. I'm just good at getting what I want.
12- I love telling other people how far they missed the mark in providing what I want. It gives me a sense of being in charge and in control. And, after all, wouldn't the owner want to know the 47 different ways his place is lacking? Surely, he would want to give his renters all that he could!!
13- Even though I chose this apartment because of the good price- and I refuse to spend more to get more-- I want the owner to provide what I might find in another place that would cost me 1500-3000 Euros for a month's vacation in as good a location.
14- I describe myself as a "neatnik", but I love to dirty every towel in the place and leave a bundle of wash for the cleaning crew-- and lots of other stuff to clean up as well :-) Additionally, I love to use the white towels as a doormat, or use them to clean my shoes :-)
15- I love to give the owner new ideas on redecorating the place, and show off my "inner" interior designer.
I like to think of myself as a combination of Laura Ashley and Martha Stewart and enjoy imposing my tastes on others. I consider myself an arbiter of tastes.
16- I just adore trip planning, so I like to exchange about 50+ e-mails with the owner before the trip, so he can tailor everything to my needs in advance. I like to try to talk him into buying little extra things just for me. It makes me feel "spoiled", and so special :-)
After all, as I told the owner, I am just trying to assure that my Paris stay in this apartment will be "PERFECT"!! (I love putting that heavy weight on the landlord's shoulders! He has to make my trip "perfect". :-)
(Notice how I have cleverly shifted the burden of my happiness to someone else rather than myself. I feel like the cat that just ate the canary :-)
17- Once on vacation in Paris, I just love daily e-mails with the landlord so I can point out all the deficiencies with the place-- well, just so he can make it better for the next person, of course. (Besides, I might even get him to waive my cleaning fee if I find enough fault with the place!!)
18- My idea of the "perfect" friend (or landlord) is one who loves hearing all of my concerns and ideas constantly. I love to tell people what I think. And I love telling them how to make things "just perfect" :-) If only they would just listen to me!
19- I love staying up at night fretting over small things.
Well, other people think they are "small" things, but they're not small to me!-- and I can't wait to share them with you :-) Besides, I LOVE to worry-- the weather, bus schedules, supplies of Kleenex or coffee filters, water filters-- you name it-- and I'll worry myself to death over it :-) And, I just love to bring other people into my world of worries :-) Welcome aboard!
20- Oh gosh, do I love to bargain! That's why I love Mexico, Africa and 3rd world countries, where you barter for everything from a head of lettuce to a belt. I should have been a rug dealer (LOL). I especially like it when I win and the other person loses :-) I like to feel that I really fleeced them. My special strategy with apartments is to take the place for a fair price, then renegotiate once I arrive (or even before, if possible). I can find all sorts of things to confront the landlord with. Then, I love to "brow beat" him into concessions-- maybe getting out of the cleaning fee, or even a rebate, or arriving a day or two earlier for the same rate. I love to get "every penny" out of each transaction. Additionally, I always try to use up all the toilet paper, soap, all the coffee, sugar, any liquor or wine left as a thoughtful gesture to us-- we like to use up all we can and leave the place barren. I say, "Let the next guests fend for themselves!" I really get off on this. (It would never occur to me to replace anything I used for the next person. That's not about Me, so it holds no interest.)
A little ploy I am particularly fond of is to parse every sentence of the ad for the apartment-- then to find any minute phrase or statement that I could twist into false advertising. That's really a good one. I know what they're offering, but I like to be a stickler and pick holes in their presentation!!! And then I hit them broadside with it and ask for a credit, which I am good at wrangling from them. (Remember, I LOVE to talk and I LOVE to haggle!-- and I love putting them on the defensive.) I really get a good night's sleep after pulling one of those-- a sense of great accomplishment! I've got the world catering to ME-- Me, Me, Me-- and after all, that's the most important thing in life :-)

(If you score even a 1 or 2 in the "Yes" column, this probably isn't the apartment for you. Conversely, if you are falling over laughing out loud because such guests are so unbelievable, then this is probably your kind of place :-) Please e-mail us at once to book it. We'd LOVE to have you!
